How does it work?
- Once you’ve selected your submission option (10 or 20 pages), we’ll reach out to you via email to confirm we’ve received your payment.
- We’ll ask you to sign a respectful workplace policy (your mentor will have already signed one).
- Then, we’ll match you with a mentor – one of our published poets with teaching and/or editing skills (and very fine books!). Our current mentors include Irfan Ali, Manahil Bandukwala, Matthew Hollett, and Sarah Venart.
- You’ll be matched within one week of signing up. Please indicate your preference of mentor:
- Manahil Bandukwala
- Sarah Venart (1 per month August-December)
- Irfan Ali
- Leah Horlick
- No preference
- You’ll send your pages via email in one document to your mentor.
- Your mentor will take up to 2 weeks to read, think about, and respond to the poems via thoughtful written feedback in a summary page and on the poems themselves. Feedback will be received via email. Mentorship includes one round of feedback.
- Once your mentorship is completed, the poet will let us know, which will prompt us to send you a post-mentorship feedback form, so we can learn from and grow the program from your experience.
Success Stories
“I was blown away by the depth that Manahil went into, I received a letter plus over 5 pages of feedback. It was well worth the spend to receive this level of feedback and well surpassed my expectations. In addition to that she also added a significant amount of comments to my poems that I can refer back to.” — Sadie M.
“I think this program fills a need for many aspiring poets who wish to go beyond introductory poetry workshops to move into the process of how to edit their work. This has definitely been the missing piece in my work and I will emerge from this with many more tools in my tool belt.” — Krista A.
“It was clear the poet had engaged with the text and was making suggestions based on the work and not on personal preference.” — Carol S.
“The feedback was encouraging, thoughtful and comprehensive. It has broadened my perspective and awareness of elements of my work, of the art itself.” — Robin D.
“I was very pleased with the quality of feedback I received from Sarah. Her comments and evaluation were very insightful and helpful.” — Peter M.
“Sarah helped me see my work in a new light. Her suggestions for a format I had not thought of for certain of my poems were especially important, as were the suggestions of other poets in regards to specific poems, all of which provided me with new insight.” — Charlotte G.
