Brickyard National Indigenous History Month Showcase

In the words of curator January Marie Rogers, this June at Brickyard, “Indigenous poets celebrate their sovereignty in words, with voice; embodied through aural expressions of lived experiences—in these strange and fascinating times, when Indigenous literature and speech are simultaneously embraced and repelled on our occupied territories registered as ‘Canada.'”

Brickyard’s National Indigenous History Month Showcase features a series of weekly performance videos and interviews with renowned Indigenous spoken word artists, including Garry Gottfriedson (world-renowned poet and educator), Liz Howard (author of 2022 Griffin Poetry Prize-nominated collection, Letters in a Bruised Cosmos), Roméo Desmarais III (multimedia artist and singer-songwriter), and Michelle Sylliboy (award-winning author and interdisciplinary artist).
