The Art of Reciprocity with Tyler Pennock, Alessandra Naccarato, and Anime

May 28, 2023 @ 11:30 am - 12:30 pm

What would it look like, to move through the world with the awareness that everything around you is as alive as you are? What comforts, solidarities, and responsibilities can we draw from a renewed understanding of what it means to be ‘in relationship’? These authors examine and imagine a worldview where the human and the nonhuman could meet on equal terms. Moderated by Anime.

Blood by Tyler Pennock

Conceived in the same world as their acclaimed debut, Bones, Tyler Pennock’s Blood centres around a protagonist who at first has difficulty knowing the difference between connection and pain, and we move with them as they explore what it means to want. Pennock weaves longing, intimacy, and Anishinaabe relationalities to recentre and rethink their speaker’s relationship to the living — never forgetting non-human kin.

Imminent Domains: Reckoning with the Anthropocene by Alessandra Naccarato

Imminent Domains: Reckoning with the Anthropocene invites readers to join a contemplation of survival—our own, and that of the elements that surround us. Using research, lyric prose, and first-hand experiences, Alessandra Naccarato addresses fundamental questions about our modern relationship to nature amidst depictions of landscapes undergoing dramatic transformation.
