The Atwater Poetry Project takes place at the Atwater Library in Montreal. This monthly poetry reading series was founded by Oana Avasilichioaei (Montreal poet and translator), in the fall of 2004. Currently, it is co-directed by Avasilichioaei and Katia Grubisic (Montreal poet and translator). The project features local, national and international voices, established and emerging poets, highlighting new, exciting and engaging writing. Over the years it has included Canadian poets such as Robin Blaser, Don McKay, Rachel Zolf, Jeff Derksen, Betsy Warland, Phil Hall, Fred Wah, Erín Moure, Nicole Brossard, as well as international writers such as John Mateer (Australia), John Havelda (Portugal) and Ida Börjel (Sweden) among others. The readings are sponsored by the Atwater Library, the Writers’ Union, The League of Canadian Poets, the Union des écrivaines et des écrivains québécois and the Canada Council for the Arts.
